Giving Thanks…and other Fall Activities

Fall has officially arrived in Nanaimo, and while many of us are loving every second of this amazingly colourful season, others aren’t so happy. So the blue skies aren’t every day now and the sun only peeks in on us once in awhile…but it’s not all THAT bad, is it?

For today’s #ExploreNanaimo Blog, we wanted to give you some ideas on fall activities in and around the Nanaimo Region in case you have a case of the “summer-is-gone-and-now-comes-the-rain-blues”:

  1. Run on crisp morning. Nanaimo has many trails perfect for running!
  2. Bring a seasonal drink to a friend. We are open 7 days a week at the Visitor Centre (hint hint) 🙂
  3. Try a new pumpkin recipe
  4. Take a trip to a winery or microbrewery. It may become necessary after you just had the family over…#amirite ?
  5. Jump in a pile of leaves at Bowen Park. While you are there enjoy a fall walk along the Millstone River and feed the ducks (duck feed available at the front office)
  6. Drive to see some seriously beautiful fall foliage. The Cedar Yellow Point area is the perfect recipe for multi-coloured leaves and open pastures. Sunday driving 101.
  7. Start your holiday shopping early. Visit downtown Nanaimo for unique gift ideas and get a head start before the Christmas rush!
  8. Stock up on end of the season produce at one of the many Farmer’s Markets in the Nanaimo Region. Most markets close then end of October.
  9. Find your way through a corn maze and pick the perfect pumpkin. Grab a hayride and see the animals on your way back (don’t forget your boots!)
  10. Check out the lit jack-o-lanterns after Halloween all along the Shady Mile on Jingle Pot Road. Join in the tradition and drop your pumpkin off the day after Halloween.  Volunteers light them to create this awesome spectacle.
  11. Take a hike to collect some fall foliage for a seasonal table centre piece – the trails around Morden Mine is just gorgeous and full of leaves right now!
  12. Learn about Nanaimo’s haunted past. Nanaimo Museum offers several spooky historical tours…if you’re brave enough…
  13. Grow a movember mustache. Its fun and for a good cause.
  14. Enjoy a spooky hayride at Brannen Lake Campground, or check out the fireworks & Halloween fun at Mountainaire Campground.
  15. Give thanks…what are YOU thankful for?

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours…
